It is true that the former United States President George W. Bush had developed a buffoonish image of himself in the world at large. His famous bloopers made the world laugh (However I don’t know if Mr. Bush felt embarrassed by these slipped up remarks!). George W. Bush could be whatever, but for sure he was not as silly as a photograph made him look like. This photograph was taken in the summer of 2002 when the President was visiting George Sanchez Charter School in Houston.
The photograph shows George W. Bush holding a book upside down as he looked at a schoolgirl who was reading from another copy of the same book. This photograph spread like wildfire especially because there was no dearth of Bush-haters and they all felt more than happy to had a laugh looking at the photograph. The photograph was, however, a fake photograph!
In the original photograph, distributed by the Associated Press, Bush is seen holding the book in the correct orientation. But after the release of photograph someone digitally altered the image and made the book held upside down. The book in question is America: A Patriotic Primer by Lynne Cheney. The author of this book is the wife of the then Vice-President Dick Cheney.
Although, people who don’t like Bush will prefer not to press their eyes -but it is easy to see that the photograph has been digitally modified. The cover images appearing on the books held by the student and the President are reverse of each other which should not be the case had the book was really held upside down by Bush. Here is the real photograph.
How did you like the photograph? It was one of the viral photograph that spread through media and people had a good laugh. Software like Photoshop have made it very easy to digitally modify photos. Sometime it is very hard to say what’s reality and what’s fake. I advise my readers to be cautious in believing the truthfulness of any material they receive from the Internet. A lot of photographs on the Internet are actually fake!
