Today the entire peacefulness in my heart seem to have disappeared. I am feeling quite hopeless and distressed about the direction that the world is choosing to go to. Since last night I have come across two very disturbing news. Having taken all the peace away from me —these news are still troubling my mind. Truly, I am missing a reassuring hug.
The first news came last night. Brother of a school-time friend of mine was brutally murdered. No one knows who has done this and why. But the needle of suspicion is pointing towards a couple of friends of the victim. The pure and selfless relation of friendship is falling down the gutter full of scum. To be honest, it is rare that I find people who really understand the meaning of friendship. For most people it is just a favorable acquaintance based on give and take. If the balance of give and take tips —the favoritism ends (sometimes with catastrophic consequences). The parents of the victim are inconsolable. Do the parents raise their kids for meeting such a fate?
The second news I read in the morning newspaper. The police has arrested two kids (10 and 12 years old) in the posh Alipore area of South Kolkata. These kids lured a five year old girl to a deserted place and tried to molest her. When the girl resisted they killed her in panic. Such are the values that this new modern era is offering the next generation. Those who oppose the importance of culture and value system —they should not do so just for the sake of it. It is true that the value systems need be to reviewed and change with time. But what is happening nowadays is clearly indicating a total rot that has slowly began to come into the open. What we are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg.
I know I will soon recover from the shock of these two saddening news but I wish to do something about it. Though I am already doing my bit but I hope to expand its reach in order make a tangible change.
Back to my usual work now.
